Car Safety Tips

  • Always lock your car even if it's in front of your home.
  • Never leave your keys in the ignition or in the car.
  • Never attach a tag with identifying information to your key ring.
  • Carry your registration card, driver license and insurance card with you, not in the car.
  • At night, park in well lighted areas with pedestrian traffic.
  • Don't leave valuables in plain view.
  • Completely close your windows.
  • If you think you are being followed, drive to an open service station, business, police or fire station.
  • Don't pick up hitchhikers and don't hitchhike yourself.
  • Copy your license plate number and vehicle identification (VIN) numbers on a card and keep the card with your drivers license
  • Approach your car with the key in hand. Look around and inside the car before getting in.
  • Be wary of people asking for directions or handing out fliers. Trust your instincts- if something makes you feel uneasy, get into the car quickly, lock the doors, and drive away.
