Personal / Home Safety Tips

  • Make sure external doors have sturdy well installed dead bolt lock and are made of solid wood or metal.
  • Sliding glass doors are easily accessible. Install a lock or place a broomstick or dowel rod in the track to jam the door.
  • Make sure windows are locked.
  • Give an extra key to a neighbor you trust. Don't hide a key outside of your home.
  • When you move into a new house or apartment, re-key the locks.
  • Install a peephole or wide angle viewer in all entry doors.
  • Install bright outside lights and keep them on at night.
  • Cut back shrubbery that hides doors and windows.
  • Clearly display your house number.
  • If you travel, use timers to turn lights off and on in different areas of your home throughout the evening.
